The lower Loss Creek is an astoundingly beautiful canyon. Unfortunately, the lower part of the second canyon is sieved out pretty bad. We were in there at a very low water level and the portaging was pretty easy, especially since Braden and Conor knew most of the run well from their first run down about a year ago (they had to hike out after running out of day light just above the sieved out section). The first Vancouver Island Creek Race was a lot of fun for everyone involved. The whole competition went really smooth and safe. A big thank-you goes to those racers that slowed down for safety or swimmers and assisted in their rescue. Especially Conor MacKenzie and Jakub Drnec stopped their races to assist other paddlers.
