Run description:
The Upper Cheak is a great short run close to Whistler. There are two options for putting-in. First: You can put in right near the take-out. This will include a waterfall that I would rate class 5. The falls are not very high (maybe 10 feet) but are a little tricky and have wood and a good undercut. Scout them. The second option is to hike down to below the waterfall an a good train and put in just a few meters below the falls. The rest of the run is class 3 - 4 with some class 4 drops.
Once you passed under a suspension bridge, you are at triple drop, the most significant drop on the river. The first time down, this is worth scouting. After that follows read and run
grade 3 to 4 fun. Lots of fun waves to surf, too.
This is one of the three most paddled creeks in Whistler (the other two being Callaghan and Soo). It is a great warm up and combined with Callaghan and Soo makes for a great full day paddling.
