Run description:
The lower browns river is a classic, Vancouver Island run! It has it all! The put in, is at the logging bridge over the river. You walk up stream on river right a few hundred meters, until you get to the end of the path, the is also were the gage is (online one is none to go nuts all the time). The top 2/3 of the run is just fun grade III play boating with lots of good catch on the fly waves and ledges. There are 2 good spots with eddy service, one is directly above the logging road bridge, on river left and the other is about 200m down stream in the center with eddies on either side. After you go under the main road bridge, you are about 200-300m above the waterfall. The best place to get out to look or walk the falls is when the river starts to take a big arching bend to the left. There is a field there with a few good eddies to get out at. The falls is a fun straightforward 15-foot water fall normally run right of center. The drop directly below the falls is a fun grade 4 drop that requires you to thread between to nasty holes, from right to left. Look at it when you get out to look at the waterfall. You can walk the falls or both. On the river right side. The last big drop is the slide, and is about 50m below the big hole drop. After the river bends to the left there is a big eddy on river right just above the slide. You can scout from hear. The standard line is right of center. After this there is more fun grade 3 water with some awesome play spots until you reach the Puntledge river.
Take-outs are usually any of the Puntledge take-outs.
Flows, 1.75 on the gage is very low any thing between 1.9 and 2.3 is fun and after that its starts to get a little pushy but it can be run much higher. I ran it in a creek boat at 3 and from the falls down got rather sporty and was solid 4+ water.
