Run description:
NOTE Max Fisher reported on May 23 2006:
there is wood about half way down across the whole river, you can find your way down river right by pulling yourself over the rocks
The upper browns in a very fun grade 4 creeky run. The put in is at the end of forbidden Pltue road, at the medicine bowls parking area. PUT IN BELLOW THE BOWLS!! PEOPLE HAVE DIED WELL SWIMING ABOVE THEM!! After you put on you will run a short 100m long grade 2+ section Get out above the corner and walk to below the box canyon. I have looked at it many times and there is a way through it but it’s not a very happy looking line. It’s never been run. From there you will put back in at the big pool. After exiting the pool there is a fun little slide with a not so nice hole on the left, best to go hard right, worth looking at. After the next little drop, there is a good-sized pool, flat-water part. Get out on the left and look at the next section. It’s a very fun 4+ drop that becomes more like grade 5 at high water. If you are walking its an easy walk on the left. The canyon directly after this has lots of eddies and 2 lines, either a boof down the right or a more strait forward move or two on the left of the big rock at the end. The next “big” drop is about 150-200m down stream after some fun III water. When the river makes a turn to the right, you’re at the next drop. You can scout from river right bank and walk if you wish. Its 2 ledges the first go right down the middle and then the second go hard right, down a nice tongue. The second one has a supper nasty hole at higher water and its still kind of ugly at normal flow. The next few Km is straightforward 3 to 3+ water. The last big drop is after a short flat-water section and you are at a horizon line were you can’t really see any thing scout from on the left. Its a kind of a long rapid that has some boogie water at the top with a small ledge then you want to go hard left down a nice slide. It’s worth taking a look at. There is a line over the big ledge at the end but it can be real ugly! After this there is more grade 3+ until you get to the take out at the logging road bridge.
Flows, on the gage at the put in to the lower browns 1.75 is low 1.85 to 1.9 is great and its been run as high as 2.2.
